how to make your blog load faster

How To Speed Up Your Blog

When your blog takes a long time to open, it drives away visitors, reduce the number of loyal readers you have and might hurt your search engine ranking which is not a very good thing for a blog that is just growing. Several methods have been conjured by webmasters to decrease the load time of a website and I'll be discussing with you the most effective ones to reduce your blog load time in the rest of this article; read on.

Minimize The Use Of Widgets

There are loads of widget available for bloggers out there, most of these widgets are useful while some are not. As useful as most of these widgets could be, you should try as much as you can to reduce the numbers of widgets you have on your blog to the barest minimum.

Use Social Sharing Button Scripts Wisely

These days even a newbie blogger make use of social sharing button below or above their blog posts or floating on one side of their blog. It's a good idea adding these article sharing buttons inside your blog posts but don't get too exited and place it all over your blog because these widgets uses some codes called scripts that allow them do their job.

However if you must use two or more of the social sharing buttons on your blog it is advisable to use one script for multiple buttons, this way is like killing two birds with a stone, but the scripts has to be placed above the code </body> in your blogger blog template then go ahead and place the button code wherever you want it to be shown.

Reduce The Use Of Banner Ads

It's correct that banner Ads are eye catching, you tend to get more clicks from them especially when you put them inside your blog posts. Banner advertisements increase the load time of a blog either on the side or inside your blog posts. You should try as much as you can to reduce them to minimum because they may cost you more than you earn from them.

Reduce The Number Of Posts On Your Homepage

This mostly concerns your blog readers and those that already know of your blog and visits it directly via it's address since visitors from search engine or social media go directly to your blog posts. The lesser the number of posts on your blog's homepage the faster you blog loads, 10 post or below is recommended. This can be changed from Settings >> Formatting tab or Layout >> Blog Post >> Edit if you are on the new blogger interface.

Optimize Your Use Of Images & Videos

Using images and videos in your blog posts is a great way to get blog visitors attached especially when you use attractive ones but they have the potential to slow down your blog's load time. Try these to optimize your blog images.
  • Reduce the size of images
  • Upload your images to blogger or Picasa web album
  • Use images in .png format
  • Use images only where necessary

Use An Effective Template

Even if you adhere to the aforementioned tips and the template of your blog is not well design and optimized then you cannot reduce the load time of your blog. Choose a simple, light and not heavily customized template for your blog, this alone could significantly increase your blog's loading time.
